Come and learn why the soil beneath our feet is teaming with life these school holidays! More than just worms, this incursion takes young learners on a fascinating exploration into the soil food web and why our society and ecosystems depend on it!
Soil isn't just soil - soil is life!
This workshop combines three things that kids love most: bugs, mud and rocks.
Decomposition powers all of earths living systems - come meet the curious creatures, the soil super heroes behind it all!
These topics provide lots of learning opportunities about the complex systems on earth. We will cover biology, habitat, decomposition, creature life cycles, waste recycling and lots more.
The main feature is the TWO live Vivariums - vivariums are enclosed spaces where bugs can live. There are over 12 arthropods in the Vivariums that will be brought along. Children will get an opportunity to explore two living Vivariums filled with 12 different arthropods.
We will touch on healthy soil - healthy plants - healthy people.
Children will get a chance to learn and play the Soil Creature Cards Games with the mat and use the microscopes to inspect the bugs in the Vivarium. Topics covered include biology, waste, decomposers and life cycles. Children will have an opportunity to participate in a craft activity while kids take turns exploring the Vivariums. Perfect for curious young explorers aged 6-11 years, this interactive session combines learning and fun through discovery, observation, and hands-on activities.
- Please note children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Accompanying adults are not required to purchase a ticket.
