Welcome to Edendale Community Environmental Farm.

We are committed to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for all visitors.

Whether you are coming to enjoy our beautiful surroundings, participate in educational programs, buy some indigenous plants from our nursery, hire a space or simply relax with family and friends, we strive to ensure that everyone can fully experience all that Edendale has to offer.

Toilets and baby change facilities

  • There are two wheelchair accessible (LH) toilets at Edendale.  One in the toilet block behind the Mummery room and one in the toilet block at the Ironbark shelter
  • Baby changing facilities are available in the accessible toilet behind the Mummery room

Service animals

  • Service animals are welcome at Edendale. Please ensure your service animal is appropriately restrained at all times

Accessibility assistance

  • If you require assistance during your visit, please do not hesitate to ask our friendly staff
  • We have a place to store mobility and/or medical equipment while you visit (eg wheelchair, hoist, oxygen)
  • We strive to make all our events and programs accessible. Please inform our staff in advance if you have specific requirements, and we will do our best to accommodate your needs

Quiet spaces

  • Edendale can be very busy and active in the mornings. If you want a quieter and less crowded experience, the best time to visit is after lunch
  • There are a number of quiet spaces around the farm for a rest. These include the Dam shelter, the Acacia shelter and the Spiral shelter

First aid

  • There are always First Aid trained staff and resource at the farm
  • Please find a staff member if you need First Aid

Communication

  • We use Cérge as our digital concierge to support personalised customer service
  • Out staff are experienced in communicating and supporting with people living with a disability

Infrastructure

Pathways

  • Edendale has well-maintained crushed rock and concretes pathways suitable for wheelchair users and individuals with mobility challenges.
  • There are ramps with handrails to assist with accessing spaces on different levels
  • Please be mindful that Edendale is a farm so there are some areas with varying surfaces, terrain and levels

Seating

  • Bench seating is strategically placed throughout the farm, providing resting spots for visitors. Some benches are designed to be accessible for wheelchair users

Shelters

  • There are a number of outdoor shelters around the farm.  If these are not being used they are great spaces for a rest and to get out of the weather

Water taps

  • There are two blue Yarra Valley drinking stations with bottle refilling taps.  One near the Macey room and one near the Ironbark shelter
  • There are hand washing taps at the end of the toilet block behind the Mummery room and in the toilet rooms

Accessibility

Hearing

  • We have a low noise reception area with hearing loss friendly acoustics and adequate lighting for viewing facial expressions

Vision 

  • We use easy read fonts in our signage and communication materials (Helvetica and Arial)
  • There is braille and tactile signage at Edendale
  • There are handrails on all stairways surrounding Café Eden and the main buildings
  • There is effective lighting throughout Café Eden and the main buildings
  • Tactile tiles are installed prior to steps, ramps surrounding café and main buildings

Physical - wheelchair

  • There are two accessible public toilet (LH) which are unlocked. One in the toilet block behind the Mummery room and one at the Ironbark shelter
  • There are two accessible parking spaces with wheelchair accessible signage clearly displayed
  • We have step free outdoor pathways from the carpark to Café Eden and the main buildings
  • There are surface variation from concrete (near Café Eden and main buildings) to compacted crushed sand pathways
  • We have doorways with lever handles held open on hot and cold days to balance usage of the weighted door at The Shop /  Reception
  • There is wheelchair access to most public spaces and activities
  • From The Shop we can provide a Master Locksmith Access Key (MLAK) key to access the Liberty Swing at Eltham North Adventure Playground

Physical - mobility

  • We have floors / coverings which are slip resistant, firm and smooth throughout café and main buildings
  • We have grab rails in the accessible bathrooms
  • We provide a variety of seating throughout Edendale including some with back rests and arm rests

Allergies and intolerances

  • First Aid trained staff are on site to respond to emergencies and allergic reactions
  • We have equipment to respond to anaphylactic shock such as epipens and defibrillator
  • Please find a staff member if you need First Aid
  • Please be aware that Edendale does host bee hives but these are kept well away from the public

Digital resources by Cerge

We have partnered with Cerge to be our digital concierge and provide you with information and resources to help plan a successful visit to Edendale.  

Cerge also has a companion phone app for people living with a disability, parents, carers and support workers which is available at the Apple Store and Google Play. This is a great resource to have with you when you visit Edendale Farm.
