Reducing use of single-use cups at Edendale

Did you know that single-use cups can no longer be placed in recycling (yellow) bins in Nillumbik?

Did you know that Australians throw away 2.7 million single use coffee cups every single day, or an astonishing 1 billion cups every year? (https://www.sustainability.vic.gov.au/disposable-coffee-cups)

At Edendale, we are trying to reduce the number of single-use cups going to landfill.

The most effective way to achieve this is to REDUCE our demand for single use cups.  So, when you sit down at Café Eden you can enjoy your tea, coffee, smoothie in a mug or glass. Alternatively bring your own re-usable cup when you visit. If we can all do this, our use of single use cups will decrease.

As a last resort, you may need to buy a beverage in a single use cup and in those circumstances we ask for your help to ensure they get RECYCLED.

As an Edendale recycling initiative, we have installed 'Simply Cups' collection points for the recycling of single-use cups and lids. There is one at Café Eden and another one just outside Reception.

It's simple, just:

 1. Separate the lid from the cup and place them in the individual slots provided in the Simply Cups collection points

 2. Make sure that there is no other waste in the Simply Cups system which means:

      - Cups should be empty of all liquid

      - No other items should be placed in the cup e.g.no straws, napkins, paper, bamboo cutlery etc.

      - No other waste items should be placed in the cups and lid slots.

If we all work together we can reduce the impact on the environment from our consumption choices (and coffee habits)
