What to bring?
One item per person unless we have extra time to squeeze in another. We have basic tools and supplies, but if your repair needs something special you'll need to bring it along.
- Clothing - simple alterations only
- Homewares
- Tools
- Toys
- Garden equipment
- Wooden items or small furniture
- Small household electrical items (please read section on Electrical items below)
How it works
You will sit with the repairer while they are fixing your item so you can get some tips for fixing things yourself at home.
Repairs are free as the repairers volunteer their time. We appreciate donations to help pay for supplies. Please bring a gold coin or request how much you would like to donate and tap your card at the front desk on the day.
If the item can't be repaired by our volunteers, we will let you know options for professional repairs or how to recycle or dispose of the item.
We are always looking for new volunteers to join our friendly team. If you are interested and can volunteer for a couple of hours on the third Saturday of each month, we would love to hear from you (both administrators and repairers welcome). Contact Edendale Farm for more information or to volunteer.
General safety note: Repairs are provided by volunteers on a best-effort basis. Items are assessed on the day and some repairs may not be possible due to safety, complexity or time constraints. All repairs are undertaken at the owner’s risk and no guarantee can be provided.
Electrical items
When our volunteer qualified electrician is at the Repair Café they will offer:
- Simple electrical repairs such as cord and plug replacement
- Safety checks of electrical items
- Diagnosis of faults and referrals to local appliance repairers for items that may require specialist repair
This service supports safe, sustainable reuse and helps community members make informed decisions about repairing or replacing items.
Electrical safety note:
Electrical items will be visually checked and only simple, low-risk repairs (such as cord and plug replacement and basic safety checks) will be undertaken by a qualified electrician. More complex or high-risk electrical faults will be referred to licensed repairers.
