World Bee Day Event
Nicky from Bobs Beekeeping Supplies is excited to share information about the fascinating lives of bees this World Bee Day. World Bee Day raises awareness of the essential role that bees and other pollinators play in keeping people and the planet healthy. Come learn about bee biology, what bees get up to and their key role in our ecosystem and food production. We’ll talk about how you can support bees in your backyard or become a keeper of honeybees yourself!
This workshop is suitable for anyone curious about bees- of any age. Children accompanied by adults are welcome.
Bobs Beekeeping Supplies
Workshops are facilitated by the team at Bob’s Beekeeping and you be guided by either Bron (owner), or Nicky (Edendale Apiary Head Beekeeper).
Bron:
Bron’s interest in bees began in 1999 while she was undertaking her undergraduate Science degree. She went on from that degree to complete a Masters in Sustainability, where her continued interest in the way people interact with their surrounding environment was fostered while working for the Department of Sustainability.
Bronwyn lives with her family on a small hobby farm near Eltham where her passion for permaculture sees her prioritising their soil health and bees, on the way to their goal of self-sustainability.
In late 2018 Bronwyn purchased ‘Bob’s Beekeeping Supplies’, the original Victorian Apiary Supply business. The purchase allowed the continuation of support and guidance provided to the beekeeping community of Victoria and the rest of Australia. Our Beginner Beekeeping courses are known through-out Australia due to our style of interactive teaching, and we are proud of the level of competency that our graduates demonstrate.
Nicky:
Nicky joined the team in spring 2020 with an interest in biology and permaculture. She has loved learning how to care for bees and enjoys sharing that knowledge with people of all ages. She lives in the suburbia in an off grid tiny home and enjoys sharing her garden & home apiary with her nephews.
The Team:
Our passion for the younger generation to understand where their food has come from, has recently led to a new arm of the business dedicated to children, ‘Bitti Beeks’. This allows children to be fully involved with this hobby while having the confidence of ultimate protective gear. It has been wonderful seeing younger children becoming just as fascinated by bees, as we are.
We currently manage between 4 and 10 hives in our Apiary that are used for education purposes and 1 hive that is dedicated to producing the family honey.
