Australia is the second-highest consumer of textiles in the world with most clothing we purchase made of non-sustainable, non-durable materials. Of all the clothes we send to op shops and charities, a tiny 15% are resold while the rest are sent overseas or straight to landfill. Yikes.
Fast fashion trends come and go in a blink, leaving mountains of textile waste in their wake. But what if there was a better way? A way to keep our wardrobes and manchester fresh and stylish, while minimising our environmental impact? Join us for a session on REthinking your clothing and textile choices. We’ll talk about what sustainable fashion really means (hint: it’s not spending loads on expensive brands or resorting to an all-woollen wardrobe). It’s about mending, renting, restyling, swapping and respecting the items you already have, while resisting trends and the siren song of fast fashion that bombards us every day.
