Waterwise Wicking Beds

In this workshop participants will learn an introduction to the water saving benefits of productive gardening in wicking beds.

Participants will gain practical knowledge including:

● Wicking beds explained, the benefits and disadvantages

● Types of wicking beds, pots and raised garden beds

● Commercial and DIY wicking bed options

● Suitable plants to grow in wicking beds

● Soil and maintenance

Participants will take a tour of the productive wicking beds at Edendale Farm.

This class is suitable for adults and young adults (16+) with beginner to intermediate gardening knowledge.

About your Tutor: Melissa Houselander, founder of Hortopia Landscapes

Melissa is a Therapeutic Horticulturist and avid gardener. She is passionate about promoting biodiversity and growing nutrient-dense food, using permaculture principles and regenerative gardening practices. Melissa tends her home orchard and large vegetable patch, keeps chickens, ducks and bees, sharing her knowledge and experience as an Educator and Garden Coordinator in community gardens.
