Planting 4 Platypus

Hosted in Conjunction with Melbourne Water, Nillumbik Shire Council and the Friends of Edendale Community Farm, we invite you to join us for a day of planting indigenous vegetation along Diamond Creek.

Platypus are a near threatened species that are present along Diamond Creek. They face increasing threats from urbanisation from increased storm water run-off, habitat degradation and pollution. This day of revegetation will help improve habitat for platypus, whilst also increasing public awareness surrounding the threats to platypus.

A presentation on platypus, as-well as sampling of the waterways for environmental DNA will be included on the day around lunchtime.

There will be two planting sessions that will occur between 10:00am - 12:00am and 1:00pm -3:00pm to allow time for lunch.

Some catering will be provided, however you are encouraged to bring your own snacks and water.

Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Please BYO planting gloves, sturdy footwear, and any weather dependant clothing.

The planting area will be around the pedestrian bridge connecting Eltham North Reserve and Edendale Community Environment Farm. We encourage you to Park at Eltham North Reserve playground area.

When booking your tickets, please book a ticket for every person in your group to help us manage numbers.

Please note:

  • The planting locations are on flat land bordering the Diamond Creek and not on the steep creek banks
  • Children will need to be supervised at all times as we are near the creek
  • This is a COVID safe event. You will be notified if plans change due to COVID restriction changes.
