Celebrating the platypus in the Diamond Creek

Great news! After being postponed due to lockdowns last year, our Celebrating the Platypus in the Diamond Creek event is going ahead on Saturday 26 March.

From 1.30pm to 6.30pm, all are welcome for a jam-packed day of family fun, including:

  • kids’ craft activities
  • farm tours
  • platypus jenga
  • face painting
  • water bug discovery activities
  • environmental stalls, food stalls, and more!

The event is being run by Council in conjunction with Melbourne Water.

Please register your attendance if you plan to join us on the day.

Bookings preferred but not essential. 

Parking and access

  • Edendale's Gastons Road entrance will be open as well as the north gate near Eltham North Adventure Playground, where there is additional car parking
  • Ticket bookings are preferred but not essential

Please note all visitors over 18 need to provide evidence of full vaccination status or an exemption as per current Victorian State Covid regulations.

Drawing competition

As part of our Celebrating the Platypus in the Diamond Creek family event on 26 March, we’re running a drawing competition for primary school students, with some great prizes up for grabs!

Categories include:

  • prep, grade 1 and 2
  • grade 3 and 4, and
  • grade 5 and 6.

We’re looking for creative entries that convey one or more of the following messages relating to platypus conservation:

  • Never leave rubbish around parks and waterways
  • Throw out fishing line and don’t leave it where you’ve been fishing
  • Save the Diamond Creek platypus
  • Keep your dog on a lead around the Diamond Creek
  • Help plant habitat plants along the creek.

Entries must be received by COB on Friday 18 March.

We have prizes available for three winners in each age group, which will be presented at the event on 26 March.

Entries must be received by Friday 18 March and can be:

  • dropped off at Council’s Civic Drive office in Greensborough,
  • dropped off at Edendale Community Environment Farm,
  • or posted to:

Entrants do not have to live within Nillumbik.
