Activities at Edendale focus on water conservation and quality, the water cycle, catchments and how to protect this precious resource. Choose from:

• Aquatic macro-invertebrates (identification, classification and interactions)
• Tale of a creek (story and role play, water quality focus)
• Edendale Farm tour (water conservation focus)
• Extended water quality testing for Year 7 Geography

Activities focus on solutions to the ever-increasing problem of waste generated by humans in the environment, including minimising waste to landfill by separating our waste, including a quick recap of what goes in each bin, making environmentally-friendly purchasing choices and recycling organic waste. Choose from:

• Soil matters (soil composition, composting and worm farming)
• Consumption Down! (waste reduction hierarchy, smarter shopping and a brief recap of what goes in what bin, and why)
• Fast Fashion (environmental impact of what we wear)

Students gain a broad understanding of biodiversity and its related issues, as well as actions that can be taken to help support and enhance biodiversity. Choices include:

• Plant local (lifecycles, propagation, planting - seasonal)
• Aquatic macro-invertebrates (identification, classification and interactions)
• Who Am I? Eltham Copper Butterfly (local endangered species focus)

Students investigate a range of issues related to climate change, renewable energy sources and practical ways in which individuals can reduce their energy footprints. Choose from:

• Cut your carbon (reducing our carbon footprint) - this activity includes our human-powered bikes; students learn about energy and power, pedalling to generate electricity to cook popcorn in the microwave
• Home green home (designing our buildings to reduce energy use)
• Re-Generate (renewable energy sources)
• Food footprint (environmental impact of what we eat, with an energy focus).
• Jump into climate action (becoming more climate conscious in what we eat, buy, wear, and how we travel)
• Young changemakers (what sort of changemaker are you? how can you make a difference?)

Activities enhance students understanding of arable land as a precious resource, explore the impact of their “food footprint” and the benefits of growing our own food and/or buying locally.

This is one of our most popular programs, incorporating activities from the water, waste, food, biodiversity and energy themes. It draws together some of the key issues that help us to live more sustainably and reduce our ecological footprint. Choices include:

• Consumption Down! (waste reduction hierarchy, smarter shopping)
• Cut your carbon (reducing our carbon footprint, includes our human-powered bikes)
• Plant local (indigenous plants – importance, lifecycles, propagation, planting)
• Food footprint (environmental impact of what we eat)
• Tale of a creek (story and role play, water quality focus)
• Sustainable Edendale farm tour
• Young changemakers (what sort of changemaker are you? How can you make a difference?)

Curriculum links: Geographical knowledge, Science Understanding, The Humanities, Technologies – Food and Fibre Production, Ethical Capability 

• Prices are per student with a minimum class size of 20 students.
• Our programs are aligned to the new Victorian Curriculum F-10 where sustainability is a cross-curriculum priority.

Extras

Other things you may like to incorporate into your excursion:

A walk along the Diamond Creek trail to Murray’s Wetlands, approximately 15 minutes. This area is a habitat for local flora and fauna.

Time to wander around Edendale and see the animals, if this is not part of your booked program.

Lunch and a play at the Eltham North adventure playground, which is a short walk from the farm and is also the drop off and pick up point for buses.
